Parkinson’s Fit Classes Wellness Programs

Our Parkinson's Exercise Program is a fitness program designed to empower people with Parkinson's Disease (PD) by optimizing their physical function and helping to delay the progression of symptoms. Each class includes exercises to improve cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility and balance.

Ability Based Exercise and Movement classes FREE for members and guests who are living with Parkinson’s disease.


PD Music & Movement – (Seated Class)PD Music & Movement class combines singing with live music, movement through rhythms, music
and instrument playing. This class works on areas of need such as breath support, volume of speech, swallowing, emotional expression, and improved movement and gait.

PD Interval – (Standing Class) Functional whole body movements instructed interval style as you go back and forth between cardiovascular training and progressive strengthening. Includes movements to improve stability, coordination, balance, and spinal flexibility all while having FUN! This class format has been developed for those living with Parkinson’s disease and standing participation.

Tai Chi – (Standing or Seated Class) Bring balance to your body with Tai Chi, a gentle exercise format promoting flexibility and stability, to improve balance and help prevent falls.

PD Chairside – Thursdays – Studio A (Seated Class) All of the great moves of our PD Interval class but adapted for those who prefer seated exercise.

Self-Care Training – A special class just for care partners. Build strength and learn how to protect your body so you remain healthy and injury-free. Creating a fun atmosphere and support comes from working in a small group setting. Our Stephens Family YMCA Personal Training staff will focus on what you need to provide positive care for yourself and your loved ones.

PD Peddlers – (Seated on Upright Clycling bikes) Riding a bike is an ideal form of exercise as it is low-impact and places little stress on your joints! Cycling may also help to prevent falls and fractures. This basic cycling class is designed for those living with Parkinson’s disease and concludes with standing balance work and stretching while holding on to the bike for extra stability.


Current Session: 

Pedal & Strength Mondays with Stephanie, a great cycling workout ending with a rewarding stretching segment. Limited 10 participants. Location Studio B 1:00-1:45PM

Strength & Balance Wednesdays with Eddie, chairs are available for support while working on strength exercises to improve your stability. Limited 20 participants. Location Studio A 1:00-1:45PM.
